General Information on Cornell University
Rumor has it that Cornell University has the highest college student suicide rates, but apparently that is not entirely true. Cornell has two beautiful but deep gorges cutting through its campus. It is infamous for where students would leap to their death. However, according to Cornell’s Gannett Health Services, in over 10 years the average number of student suicides is 2 per year. This average is consistent with the national average of college student suicides.
So people’s impression that Cornell University has the highest suicide rates are generated because of suicides in the gorges by Ithaca residents and visitors, more of a media focus on Cornell, word of mouth, and accidental deaths of students in the gorges.
Cornell’s campus is very inclusive; it’s like its own small town. Cornell is also in the middle of nowhere but many people say it’s still a nice place to be and there are things to do if you search for it. Cornell has a lot of natural beauty found in its campus. There are lots of old green trees, many gardens, walking bridges over gorges, and people overall say it’s a beautiful campus.
