The University of Notre Dame lacked diversity in both student population and faculty according to an external reaccreditation review conducted in Spring 2005 by Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association. The report by the review team states, “the percentage of minority students has increased, but progress has been slow. Representation in the faculty and staff ranks remains meager despite efforts.”

According to the review, there were also a lack of communication between students and the administration. The report said the University of Notre Dame has studied the problem and made changes but it lacks consistency in the method of communication between the students and senior levels of the administration.
